It is a good moment to repeat that a war is never won. Never mind that history books tell us the opposite. The psychological and material costs of war are so high that any triumph is a pyrrhic victory. Only peace can be won and winning peace means not only avoiding armed conflict but finding ways of eradicating the causes of individual and collective violence: injustice and oppression, ignorance and poverty, intolerance and discrimination. We must construct a new set of values and attitudes to replace the culture of war which, for centuries, has been influencing the course of civilization. Winning peace means the triumph of our pledge to establish, on a democratic basis, a new social framework of tolerance and generosity from which no one will feel excluded.

Olympic Truce Family Wedding !!!!

Breaking news - today Lord Bates - or "our Michael" as the global family might know him, gets married to Xeulin. We wish them a marriage full of health and happiness and we extend to them the love and blessings from our group. We know that in their partnership they will continue to promote peace where ever their lives might take them. So from 10,624 members representing 85 countries our thoughts are with you on your special day.

Lord Bates found love during a Herculean peace walk across Europe to promote the Olympic Truce, which encourages warning nations to still their weapons during the Games.

Love blossomed between him and fiancée Xuelin Li amid the tear gas of crisis-hit Athens, said the former MP for Langbaurgh, after they first meet in interesting circumstances just before he left the UK for his epic marathon.

London’s ambassadors show support for Olympic Truce

All followers of our Olympic Truce Facebook family are invited to a wonderful, free event on 16 August. Central Hall Westminster, opposite Westminster Abbey, which hosted the first meeting of the UN General Assembly in 1946 will witness another important United Nations occasion. HE Mr Khaled Al-Duwaisan GCVO, ambassador of the State of Kuwait, senior ambassador in London, will be joined by fellow ambassadors in confirming their countries’ co-sponsorship of the UK’s Resolution to promote the Olympic Truce unanimously passed at the United Nations on 14 October 2011. This confirmed their support for human development initiatives through sport and co-operation with the International Olympic Committee, the International Paralympic Committee and the sporting community in general.                                                   

Group Template Philippines

Groups in a few countries have asked if there was a way that they could not only promote peace, but also become involved in A Ray of Hope Projects. I cannot illustrate this better than by making reference to 40 students in Cebu City, Philippines.
They formed "Project Hope, Philippines" 20 weeks ago - and have, in those 20 weeks cleaned their streets as part of their ecological aims, refurbished schools, distributed educational supplies, fed 5400 children with their weekly feeding programme and harnessed the energies of their friends, families and local government. Their banner promotes their aspirations and pillars of focus. Also in the photograph their new mobile kitchen implements.

Malawi and Melanie

One person that I have not told you about is Melanie - she never spends long enough in one place to catch her - however - she has just returned from Malawi - where she makes friends and helps. Thought this might interest our family.
"I bought some mice and rats that had been dried out in the sun, and were ready for eating, whole. t I paid 600 kwotcha for 6, thats like £1.40, for 6 on a stick, so I bought 3 sticks full, and paid the children 3 times as much as they had asked. They were so very happy, and even more so, when I gave them back all their mice and rats, to eat for the evening meal, or to resell. The three young boys were ecstatically happy, and could barely believe their good fortune that day. "
